What is school 'refusal'?

This animation has been developed as a tool to help school staff and other professionals better understand the complexity of school 'refusal'. 

 

HOGENT is the largest University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Flanders, Belgium. Between 2017 and 2019 a team at Hogent conducted a multidisciplinary qualitative research project, reviewing existing literature and interviewing twenty 11-25 year old school 'refusers' and their parents, friends, teachers and doctors. They concluded that a better understanding, communication and connection is needed between all parties, hence this animation.
