Publicity is a key aspect of our campaigning, both to raise awareness of school attendance difficulties and to draw attention to the consequences for children and families when a child struggles to attend through extreme anxiety.
Many people are unaware that there is a legal obligation on parents to ensure their child receives an education and that it is up to individual school leaders whether an absence is authorised or not. Unauthorised absence can lead to fines and prosecutions and many non-attenders are offered no alternative provision. In addition, low attendance often triggers referral to social services.
